Farfugium japonicum, or the tractor seat plant as some call it, is a great addition for a shady spot in your garden. Known to be low-maintenance and tough, farfugium is hardy in zones 7-10. You should add some supplemental water to it if there is a drought, but it has very few pest or insect problems. We love this plant because it starts to bloom in fall when most things are dormant for the winter. The long stalks of yellow flowers are a showstopper if you have several in a mass planting in your yard. Make sure to look for this plant on your next plant-shopping trip!
