Vintage Garden at Stonewalk Cottage
This garden as currently designed is 30 years old, with vintage and antique varieties of plants. The age and old-fashioned selections evolving over time have combined to create a homey ambiance for this modest 1915 stucco cottage. The hand laid stone pathway, a main feature, connects and lends movement through a series of garden rooms: the heart-shaped main garden filled with japonica and sasanqua camellias, a little pocket rock garden offering color and nectar for pollinators, and finally, through an arbor, the KISS Garden (Keeping it Simple and Serene) in back – a place to pause in a zen-like setting. The patio is hand laid with antique bricks from Mobile’s old St. Joe brick yard downtown, and hosts seasonal container plant selections. Stonewalk Garden, designed and largely planted out by the owners throughout their lifetime, is an evolution that reflects its historic roots and a lifetime of love.
